We celebrated 1 year of living in the UK while we were in Prague, and we celebrated in the best way possible: traveling around with my family.
Yeah, I know I’m a little late in bringing this up since it’s nearly October, and that was back in July.*oops* I’ve struggled to summarize how I feel about the past year. Part of me doesn’t want to dwell on it, to just be glad things are easier now, and that we’ve put that difficult season behind us. But the other part of me can’t get over how thankful I am to have had such an amazing year. Yes it was hard, but our needs were met, I got a job, we furnished our house, made new friends, traveled to new places, and have been loved and supported by our families. The difficulties we faced make me appreciate the good moments even more, and I’m really thankful. One year down, and 4 more to go – if all goes to plan. 🙂
I was recently interviewed by blogexpat.com and expatfinder.com, and shared about my experiences as an expat, and it reminded me of how far we’ve come. If you are new around here, you can catch up on our expat story here (scroll down to the bottom to start at the beginning 🙂 ).
And to my fellow expats, or those considering moving abroad: all I can say is keep on keeping on! Don’t give up on anything too quickly – give your job, your church, co-workers, town, etc. a proper chance to grow on you. It took me a full 6 months to feel any sort of attachment to our new home or friends, and I’m glad I didn’t let myself get too discouraged during that time. Some things only time (and more time) can bring about.
I’ll reach my 1-year mark in England in November 🙂 What a wild ride, glad you’ve enjoyed your year!!

Wild is right! Here’s to hoping year 2 will feel more normal 🙂
